A tragic accident occurred in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, on Monday when a truck allegedly driving against traffic collided with a minibus, leading to the death of a motorcycle rider and injuring three others.
The accident, which took place after a police officer stopped a minibus for driving against traffic, sparked tension in the community.
According to reports, as the minibus was being stopped, a truck lost control, crashed into the minibus, which then struck the motorcycle and its rider, resulting in the rider’s immediate death.
This triggered an angry mob, which set the minibus ablaze. The driver of the truck narrowly escaped being lynched by the mob.
The injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at Oleh Central Hospital and Maranatha Clinic.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, clarifying that it was a Toyota Sienna driving against traffic that was set on fire, not a police van, as some reports had suggested.
The situation remains tense as authorities continue their investigation into the accident.
