FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has voiced strong confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, predicting that Nigerians will be celebrating his achievements by the end of his first term.
Speaking at the launch of the new N5 arterial road project in Abuja—one of five roads greenlit within the week—Wike emphasized that Tinubu is determined to tackle economic and infrastructural challenges nationwide.
Highlighting Tinubu’s commitment to addressing pressing issues like hunger and poverty, Wike urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and keep the country’s leaders in their prayers. He assured that the president’s “Renewed Hope Initiatives” are designed to bring widespread benefits across the country.
According to Wike, the new road projects are already generating both direct and indirect jobs for Abuja residents. He encouraged Julius Berger, the project contractor, to expedite the construction, aiming for completion within 14 months, instead of the 18-month timeline. Wike hinted at the possibility of additional contracts if they could meet this accelerated deadline.
While the project’s total cost remains undisclosed, Wike revealed that the FCT Administration had paid 70% of the contract’s sum to Julius Berger upfront. “By the end of President Tinubu’s term, Nigerians will be pleased,” Wike said, noting that challenges like hunger and poverty, which have spanned multiple administrations, are being addressed with short-term but impactful measures aimed at long-term relief.
The Senate President, represented by Senate Committee on FCT Chairman Ibrahim Bomai, attended the flag-off and praised the FCTA’s commitment to road construction, noting that strong infrastructure drives socio-economic growth. He affirmed the 10th Assembly’s support for measures to advance infrastructure development across the country.
Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Executive Secretary Shehu Hadi Ahmad provided further project details, noting that the new six-lane, 4.4-kilometer road will link Life Camp Junction to Ring Road 3. The road, named Obafemi Awolowo Road, will improve access to key areas like Kado Fish Market, Life Camp, and Karimu, enhancing connectivity for residents across multiple districts, including Gwarinpa and Dei-Dei.
Ahmad emphasized that the new road will bring much-needed relief, making it easier for residents to navigate between Kado, Karimu, and surrounding neighborhoods.
