Veteran stand-up comedian Atunyota Akpobome, popularly known as Ali Baba, recently opened up about the surprising turn of events that led to the birth of triplets at the age of 59.
During an interview on the Leadership Podcast with Stephen Akintayo, Ali Baba shared how he and his wife, Mary, originally planned to have just one more son but were blessed with triplets instead.
Ali Baba explained that the decision came after their children left for overseas studies, leaving the house feeling empty. His wife, Mary, initially considered adopting, but later decided she wanted to have another child of her own. The couple opted for In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), hoping to fertilize two eggs for the chance of one successful pregnancy.
However, things took a surprising twist when one of the fertilized eggs split into two, resulting in the couple welcoming triplets instead of one.
“Madam had always wanted a son, especially after raising two daughters,” Ali Baba explained. “When our children left for studies abroad, the house felt empty. She suggested adopting, but later thought, ‘Why not have our own?'”
Despite Ali Baba’s initial reservations about the cost, they proceeded with IVF, intending to fertilize two eggs. He later learned that one of the eggs had split into two, leading to the birth of three boys.
Reflecting on the experience, Ali Baba said, “Sometimes when you ask God for one, He gives you three. We had been planning for one more son, but God had other plans, and now we have three boys.”
On April 1st, Ali Baba announced the birth of his triplets, which many initially believed to be an April Fools’ joke. However, the reality became clear when the triplets were later dedicated in Lagos.
